Kansas City - Midtown area CSA
Sign up for the 2018 Season Now
We take pride in providing our CSA members with the highest quality local produce available, as well as the opportunity to support sustainable agriculture, reduce energy consumption, contribute to a cleaner environment, strengthen the local economy and enhance the economic viability of family farms. Here's what you need to know about our CSA that is delivered to the midtown area of Kansas City.
Who can sign up for the Kansas City CSA location? Anyone in the Kansas City area. There are full share or standard options for people who want 6-7 items per week, and partial shares with 4-5 items per week, perfect for small households.
What do you get in a weekly share? Subscribers receive a bag each week of seasonal produce that is fresh and ready to eat from the fields of our four farms in Douglas County. The bag will typically contain a variety of vegetables, herbs, some small fruit, and sometimes eggs. If you'd like to see what we grow monthly, check out our month-by-month guide.
How much food should I expect? Quantities are always a manageable size, and generally based on the amount required for a typical four serving recipe. When we say 6-7 items, an "item" is usually a group: two red bell peppers, a small box of tomatoes, a bag of lettuce, etc.
What does it cost? Prices are based on grocery store prices of produce of comparable quality. The price of a full share will be $18.00 a week, while a partial share costs $13 per week. Partial shares are not half shares; they are 4-5 items per week. Both include sales tax. Payment can be made for the entire season or monthly.
Where is the produce delivered? Delivery on Wednesdays in Kansas City is at 75th and State Line, from 5:30-6:30pm. We'll send you a map after you complete the sign-up process.
When does it start and end? The delivery start date will be the week of May 14, 2017, and the last delivery will be the week of October 22, 2017 (24 weeks). Please note that participation is all season long; it is not possible to sign up for only one month or a part of the season.
What if I can't be there to pick up? If you will be gone for a pick-up please arrange for a family member, friend, or neighbor to pick up that week’s bag. Produce that isn’t picked up will be donated to a local food pantry. Payment will still be your responsibility whether you pick up or do not.
What if there's something I don't want to take or I want more of an item? This year, our CSA will provide a take one/leave one basket so that CSA members can trade items. For example, if the bag of potatoes we offered isn't large enough for the recipe you want to make, and you don't like tomatoes, you potentially could leave your tomatoes in the basket and pick up the extra bag of potatoes that someone else in the CSA line left in the basket.
New this year!
- We are now using Member Assembler for online signup and payment. You'll get your own account with regular reminders of payments, and even schedule CSA pickup reminders.
- You can also sign up to give a CSA share. We believe that anybody who wants to eat nutritious, locally raised, and organically grown food should have the opportunity to do so! So we have partnered with Sunrise Project in Lawrence to match us with families or individuals in our community who would not otherwise have access to a CSA subscription, enabling them to receive a season's worth of fresh, organically grown produce. When someone chooses to donate a CSA share through us, they send us the cost of the full or partial share, and Sunrise Project then puts us in contact with a suitable family or individual to receive the share.
- We'll still offer the take one/leave one basket -- if there's something you don't want, you can leave it in the basket and take something else from the basket.
- Larger item sizes. We heard from many of you that sometimes, there wasn't enough of something in the bag to make a recipe, so we will strive for larger amounts when possible. A partial share will be 4-5 items, and a full share will be 6-7 items.
I have questions. Please contact us.
